Petrified Forest National Park

On our way to Flagstaff on I-40 we took a travel break at the Petrified Forest National Park. Since we plan to visit a number of other parks it made sense to purchased an annual pass for $80. I guess we’ll see how it all works out.

Petrified Forest is an amazing geological area, but doesn’t offer as much to keep the kids entertained.  The views are spectacular, but kids don’t really appreciate that as much as adults do. Regardless, Morgan and Derek were once again enthralled with the visitor centers. As for Marcy and I, we enjoyed another day together in a wonderful place.

On the way out of the park we drove through the town of Holbrook, AZ. This town was definitely part of the inspiration for the movie “Cars”. I saw the Cozy Cone, Flo’s dinner, Guido’s tire shop and probably missed several others.  We’ll have to come back to “Radiator Springs” another time when the kids are awake. Next stop Flagstaff.
